Playing Card memory Test

How many Bits does it take to memorise a pack of cards in sequence?

Is it equal bits per card?

If so then:    1 in 52: Log252 = 5.7 Bits, So x 52 = 295 bits per pack
or
does the subject remember which cards have been eliminated?
If so successive cards would require fewer bits and the last card would be obvious!
1379 possibilities instead of 52 x 52 = 2704 possibilities.
So apparently a significant advantage, but it would require much more mental processing to make it work, so probably slower overall

The world record holder Ben Pridmore (UK) achieved his record of one pack in 24.7 seconds, by memorising 26 pairs of cards

If he can remember which card pairs have gone, then there are 52 x 51 possibilities =2653, a 2% benefit
(He never sees 2 pair of Five of Spades)
I have not included this adjustment as I do not know if Ben was able to take advantage of this.
