Note on Wife: Catherine EPWORTH
From Jill Mordaunt: Catherine was my great-grandmother so I'd be really interested to have a photo of the family bible. Her story seems to have been really sad. I sent for a copy of her death certificate. She died on 12th December 1887 of intussousception of the bowel - which is a perforation I think. She was 30 years old and had four small children. Then in February 1888 her husband George Eyre died of smallpox aged 32. My grandmother Mary Eyre was the oldest child and they seem to have been brought up by Catherine's mother who lived at 1 Joiner Street Sheffield for that was the address from which my grandmother married in on 3 April 1893. Uncle George was born in August that year -nuff said. However, I have not yet been able to track down her birth certificate but my suspicion is since George and Catherine did not marry until 1876 - that she lied about her age. The marriage certificate gives this as 18 but from the census I think she was only 3 in 1881.
