probably in 1930 that Arthur took over the Palace Theatre Attercliffe. At this time it was reopened as a cinema. In 1937 it became a theatre a specialised in variety shows and pantomime during the Christmas season. Such artists as Charlie Chaplin, Ken Dodd, Bruce Forsythe, Frankie Howerd and Joseph Lock the famous tenor are reputed to have performed there. By 1939 Richard was the managing director and Speed was the manager and secretary of the Palace Theatre Attercliffe.
